General Post-Op Guidelines
The First Few Days
- Rest with your head elevated
- Use eye drops as prescribed
- Wear the eye shield/patch as directed
- Avoid touching or rubbing your eye
- Keep water out of your eye when bathing
Activity Restrictions
- Avoid heavy lifting (>10 lbs) for 1-2 weeks
- No strenuous exercise for 2-4 weeks
- Avoid bending over sharply
- Don't drive until cleared by your doctor
- Limit screen time initially
Important Restrictions
If You Have a Gas Bubble in Your Eye
- • NO air travel - can cause dangerous pressure changes
- • NO scuba diving - similar pressure concerns
- • NO high altitudes - mountain travel can be dangerous
- • NO nitrous oxide anesthesia - interacts with gas bubble
- • Follow head positioning - as directed by your surgeon
The gas bubble will slowly absorb over 1-8 weeks depending on the type used.
